MUD Jeans
MUD Jeans - Make The Planet Cooler - The Most Sustainably Produced Jeans
Circular Denim through Conserving Resources, Reducing Impact, and Recycling:
100% Recyclable
Designed for circularity, using cotton blends with recycled and organic fibers, minimal elastane for stretch, cellulosic labels, and stainless-steel hardware; ensuring every component is recyclable.
40 % Post consumer (worn out) recycled denim is used in the fabric composition of many of our jeans, including styles like the Sara High Loose - Stone Vintage for women and John Mid Straight - Medium Stone for men. On average, our jeans contain 25% recycled content.
Road to 100 - In 2019, we began developing the first jeans made entirely from post-consumer recycled cotton. Collaborating with Saxion University, we achieved this through a mix of mechanical and chemical recycling in early 2022. The next step is to scale up production and make these jeans commercially available.
101,780 Old jeans - Turned into new jeans since 2012. In 2024 alone, more than 15,000 Jeans (eq.) were saved from landfill.
46.6% CO2 Less CO2 eq. Emissions - By using recycled materials, renewable energy and impact-saving spinning, dyeing and weaving techniques. On average, the production of a pair of MUD Jeans product emits 3.5 kg of CO2 eq. This leaves us at 127,080 Kg of CO2 (eq.) in emissions that were avoided in 2024, which is the equivalent of the emissions of an average passenger car driving 1.12 million kilometers.
87-94% Less water consumption - In comparison to the often-mentioned figure 3700 to 7500 litres of water that an average pair of jeans consumes from cotton production to manufacturing. By comparison, an average pair of MUD Jeans consumes only 460 litres. 48.7 million Litres of water were conserved in 2023, which is the equivalent of 73 Olympic swimming pools.
Vegan - No animal products are used in our jeans. Instead of the classic leather patches we use cellulosic labels.
Zero Discharge of Hazardous Chemicals - In 2021, we implemented a chemical policy based on Zero Discharge of Hazardous Chemicals (ZDHC) guidelines, with full compliance from our supply chain partners.
Certifications, Transparency, and Innovations in Our Supply Chain
Tightly Knit - With just 4 recyclers, 4 fabric producers, and 1 jeans manufacturer, we ensure full oversight and foster collaboration throughout our supply chain. All our partners sign our Code of Conduct, committing to labor rights, ethical practices, and safe working conditions.
OCS, GRS and GOTS Certified - All our recyclers/fabric suppliers are Global Recycled Standard (GRS) & Organic Cotton Standard (OCS) certified, and our jeans manufacturer is Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) certified.
Radically Transparent - We include QR codes on hangtags and care labels, allowing customers to trace every step of the journey of their jeans from production to delivery. MUD Jeans is one of very few brands with a public impact assessment for each product, conducting an annual Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) to quantify and share its environmental impact.
Eco-Innovations Across Our Every Step - We innovate at every step of the supply chain to create sustainable jeans. Using recycled cotton saves up to 2,116 liters of water, 1.79 kg of CO₂, and 3.89 m² of land per kilo. Our fabric supplier's Dry Indigo foam dyeing uses 99% less water, 86% fewer chemicals, and 65% less energy. At Yousstex International, jeans are sustainably cut, sewn, washed, and branded. Their advanced techniques recycle up to 95% of water, and e-Flow technology reduces water use by 95%, electricity by 60%, and chemicals by 90%. Laser and ozone technologies replace harmful methods like stone washing and bleach, cutting water use and pollution while ensuring safer processes.
